The Effect of Giving Fermented Phaseolus lunatus. L as a Feed Additive on Broiler Lymphoid Organs
ABSTRACT. This study aimed to determine the effect of fermented Phaseolus lunatus L. leaves (locally known as kacang tujuh jurai) as a natural feed additive on the lymphoid organs of broilers, namely the thymus, bursa of fabricius, and spleen. A completely randomized design (CRD) was employed with five treatments and four replications. The treatments included P0 (control), P1 (0.50%), P2 (1%), P3 (1.50%), and P4 (2%) concentrations of Phaseolus lunatus L. leaves administered through drinking water. The parameters observed were the relative weights of lymphoid organs to live body weight of broilers after five weeks of rearing. The results showed no significant effect (P>0.05) on the relative weights of the bursa of Fabricius, thymus, and spleen. It can be concluded that fermented Phaseolus lunatus L. leaves are safe and have potential as a natural feed additive to support the physiological stability of the broiler immune system.
