SHARIA LAW AND SHARIA VIRTUES IN SHAPING THE MORALS OF GENERATION Z: AN INTEGRATIVE-INTERCONNECTIVE APPROACH

Liana Novita, Amril M

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop an integrative-interconnective relationship between ahkam syariáh and makarim syariáh. This will build a solid foundation of understanding and knowledge to guide the moral development of Generation Z, who are growing up in an era of rapid technological advancement. The main issue identified is the gap between the intellectual understanding of ahkam syari'ah and makarim syari'ah, which leads to a lack of practical application of ethical virtues, or a clear imbalance between the two. Therefore, instilling morals in Generation Z requires a strong theoretical framework that integrates ahkam syari'ah and makarim syari'ah. Addressing existing problems in ethical virtues is crucial. Sharia law refers to practices related to worship and the basic principles of Islamic teachings, where compliance leads to goodness and non- compliance leads to error. In contrast, makarim syariah (ethical virtues) refers to actions that aim to bring individuals closer to the attributes of God, such as wisdom, knowledge, generosity, forgiveness, and other similar virtues. A qualitative approach was used, utilizing literature research and in-depth content analysis of primary texts and leading academic journals. This study carefully examines the natural relationship and interdependence between two important elements of Islamic law (ahkam syariáh and makarim syariáh). It explores how this integrated approach directs Generation Z's moral education from merely achieving goodness to deeply embracing the attributes of God, which ultimately fulfills the objectives of Islamic law.
