Numerous of his sculptures now reside in the Museum. The Museum is also home to sculptures by Andrea Pisano (1290-1349) and numerous others. The Uffizi Gallery homes lots of important paintings, most notably numerous from the collection of the de Medici household, who willed their massive art collection to Florence in 1737. When the Germans were bombing the bridges into Florence during World War II, the Ponte Vecchio was spared, apparently because Hitler ordered them to skip that bridge because it was so appealing. Florence is still a center of art and culture, simply as it has been for lots of centuries.
