Many of his sculptures now live in the Museum. The Museum is also home to sculptures by Andrea Pisano (1290-1349) and lots of others. The Uffizi Gallery houses many important paintings, most especially numerous from the collection of the de Medici household, who willed their enormous art collection to Florence in 1737. When the Germans were bombing the bridges into Florence during World War II, the Ponte Vecchio was spared, supposedly since Hitler ordered them to avoid that bridge since it was so attractive.
