Numerous of his sculptures now live in the Museum. The Museum is likewise house to sculptures by Andrea Pisano (1290-1349) and lots of others. The Uffizi Gallery houses numerous valuable paintings, most significantly many from the collection of the de Medici household, who willed their enormous art collection to Florence in 1737. When the Germans were battle the bridges into Florence during World War II, the Ponte Vecchio was spared, presumably since Hitler purchased them to skip that bridge because it was so attractive. Florence is still a center of art and culture, just as it has been for numerous centuries.
