Bio Statement I graduated with a master’s degree in Anglo-Saxon language and literature from the Ruhr University where I also earned my PhD in “Teaching German as a Foreign Language”. My passion has always been for teaching rather than academic research, hence, I have spent my entire working career as a German teacher. In my 20 years of teaching German to foreign students both in and outside of Germany where I live I witnessed a surge of interest in German language. There appears to be more than just one single reason for this new interest. These include sustained economic growth and resulting shortages in the German labour market, opening of the German labour market to workforce from the new EU member states, growing popularity of German universities among international students, tuition-free education at all public schools, etc. At the moment, 300 thousand international students are enrolled at German universities which offer study courses both in German and English. To assist international students in finding the most suitable study course in Germany I helped compile this list of the best German universities that also reveals the highest-ranking study subjects at each particular university in global comparison. From my own experience I can tell that Germany is a great place not just to study but also to live in. I once came here to study but fell in love with this wonderful country and its people and stayed for nearly 30 years.
